What you will learn?
High level process mapping
About this course
Understanding the process is not about a right or wrong answer, it’s about the team creating a shared understanding of The Process and The Customer. This is not always as easy as it might seem. For many problems that have been defined, there are not clear boundaries, there may not be clear outputs and handoffs.
A high-level process map is a graphical display that shows the flow and steps in a process. Through your green belt training, you will learn many different types of maps. Each has its own purpose, its own benefits and something about each map makes it unique. Additionally, maps can show different perspectives; a map can be a current state (which we use to understand how things work today) or a future state (which we’ll use when we get to the Improve phase – to illustrate how things will work in our improved process). Sometimes, we can refer to the current state as the “as is” process map. And that’s different from the “should-be” map. The” as-is” and the “should be” are the difference between the procedure manual and reality.
At this point, at the beginning of the Define phase, the team will use a Current State High Level map to understand the process, the customers and to develop clarity around this project. And this is what we will learn today!

Understanding requirements is the basis for understanding where we need to improve.
What are the standards that need to be met for our customers, our people and our business to thrive?
We will focus on Requirements in every phase of DMAIC:
In the Define phase… we understand our opportunities to improve based on what the customer and business need and want
In Measure…we turn those requirements into something tangible and measurable
In the Analyze phase…we focus on specific aspects of our process that are causing problems with us delivering requirements
The Improve phase focuses on designing our process to deliver to requirements. We test our products and processes to ensure that every requirement is met
And in the Control phase…the Requirements become our KPIs – our Key Performance Indicators – that we monitor regularly.
Now, let's get started!
In this continuation from Part 1, we will learn about the NPS, Affinity Diagram, VOC (Voice of the Customer), Suggestion Boards, Feedback and more!
Let's go, almost there!
